Commercial Deployment Case of Loopless ALPR Camera
2025.07.29 09:13

This newsletter aims to help customers gauge the level of AI that can be implemented on Seyeon Tech’s EX2 series using its open AI SDK. By sharing a real-world case, we hope to offer a practical benchmark for what is achievable.

Recently, over 20 ALPR (Automatic License Plate Recognition) cameras were installed and are currently operating in an apartment complex near Seoul. Unlike systems based on expensive foreign SoCs, these cameras utilize a domestic NPU-based, low-power, high-efficiency module, demonstrating excellent stability and recognition accuracy over more than two months of live operation.

The deployed product is a complete solution based on Seyeon Tech’s FWC-EX2-307 module with a Sony IMX307 Full HD image sensor. The customer developed their LPR model using Seyeon Tech’s open AI SDK. Although the EX2 series operates in a limited environment—with a maximum of 1.2TOPS and support for only a restricted set of models—this project proves that commercialization is possible even under these constraints.

One notable feature is the Loopless approach, which enables vehicle detection and barrier control without underground loop sensors. This simplifies installation and significantly reduces maintenance costs.

The ALPR camera performs both License Plate Detection (LPD) and License Plate Recognition (LPR) directly within the camera, eliminating the need for external processing hardware. With inference speeds of up to 6fps, it can detect and analyze incoming vehicles in real time. The recognition results are sent to a nearby PC server, which integrates seamlessly with the parking management system.

The customer spent approximately eight months optimizing their LPD and LPR algorithms for various on-site conditions. Parking systems often demand higher recognition accuracy—above 98%—than highway surveillance, and this case successfully demonstrated stable performance even with Seyeon Tech’s cost-effective camera.

In challenging environments such as poor lighting or difficult camera angles, two cameras can be installed side-by-side. Additionally, Seyeon Tech’s automatic ISP profile switching helps maintain high recognition accuracy by adapting to lighting changes between day and night or sunrise and sunset.

Seyeon Tech is committed to more than just supplying hardware. We aim to build an open AI camera development platform where partners can integrate their core technologies on top of our system. While this project runs on a 1.2TOPS module, we will soon release new models with 5.4TOPS and 20TOPS performance, expanding the possibilities for our customers and enabling even more powerful AI applications.
